If you have ever owned a stubborn dog ready to break the house rules, you will understand why you need the Halo beacons. I learned it the hard way when my new puppy ran away from home.
It took me a week to locate it in a shelter, but the stress was not what I wanted to experience the second time. I was introduced to the Halo beacons. I was initially confused about what to do with this gadget.
What do halo beacons do? Halo beacons are basically multifunctional and portable devices that can be positioned anywhere to support your boundary goals. There are three types of beacons namely:
Indoor beacons:
Indoor beacons can be used in locations that are not exposed to any weather conditions.
The Indoor Halo Beacon comes as a Bluetooth-enabled device that communicates with a dog’s Halo Collar to convey the presence of a boundary. As a result, the product is optimized for indoor training and keep-away areas within your home.
Outdoor beacons:
As the name implies, outdoor beacons can be used in any location.
USB beacons:
These can be used anywhere where they can be plugged into a power outlet.
All of these Beacons provide users with two functions, which include, Keep Away and Ignore Fences.
The Keep Away setting keeps your dog from entering unwanted or unsafe areas. Keep Away Beacons trigger alerts that act like any other boundary when your dog comes near them
Functionalities

This setting ensures that your dog stays away from unwanted or dangerous places. The keep-away beacon trigger alerts you once your dog comes near a boundary that it should not go close to.
Ignore fences:
With the Ignore Fences setting, you can create a portable ‘Safe’ zone where your dog will not l receive any Fence feedback while in range no matter whether the pet pin is inside or outside of a Halo Fence.
Beacon settings are customizable. You can determine the type of beacon you want, the name, and also the size of the radius. However, you must note that the radius of the beacon is not flat but spherical.
This means that when they are on another floor in your house, it is very possible for your dog to trigger beacon feedback if the radius is set to a high setting.
My Beacons
This feature permits the user to add a Beacon to your account, give it a name, and set a custom radius that can be used for that Beacon only.
For existing users:
Once your dog’s halo is configured to respond to all Halo beacons, it will do so until you add a beacon to your account in the Halo app. As soon as you add a Beacon to your account, your Halo will only be able to respond to Beacons that are registered to your own account.
For new users:
For new users, the halo of your dog will respond to beacons that are registered to your account in the Halo App. However, if no beacon has been added to your account, you will not be able to turn Beacons on for your dog.
How to Set Up Wireless Fencing?
Wireless fencing is very effective and guarantees your dog’s safety no matter where you are. Regardless of whether your pets are indoors or outdoors, the halo wireless fence is highly recommended.
Through the Halo App on your phone, I can connect and set up your virtual fences. This can be done:
- By strolling through the perimeter while holding the collar, or tapping on specific points on the map in your app to set up your boundary.
- By crafting up to 20 custom wireless fences through your halo app to keep your dog safe.
With invisible virtual fences, you spend just a fraction of what you would spend with ‘wired’ fencing.
How should I use My Beacons?
My Beacons offer you the freedom to determine places where your dog can go. For instance, when using the beacon for training your dog, I can choose a small beacon radius to make sure that your dog receives feedback when they are close to the beacon.
More so, when using a different beacon to keep your dog out of a room, you can set the beacon to a higher radius. This will enable your dog to receive feedback at the door, corridor, or throughout the entire room.
New Beacon Features
When the Halo Beacons have been added to your account, these Beacons can be muted at any time. Once they are muted, your dog’s Halo will ignore them.
For the Halo to provide feedback for any of the Beacons, each dog will need the beacon to be enabled for the Halo.

How do you turn on a halo beacon?
While viewing the list of My Beacons, you can see whether or not your Beacons are powered on. You may also be able to see how recently they reported, and the amount of battery life remaining for each one.
Procedures to turn a Halo Beacon on:
- While pressing down on the Halo Logo on the Beacon, hold down for about 5 seconds just until the blue LED blinks once with a single long blink.
- When you see the blue ‘power’ LED long-blink once, the Halo Beacon has just turned on.
Procedures to turn a Halo Beacon off:
- Press down on the Halo Logo on the beacon and then hold down for about 5 seconds just until the blue LED turns on. Once this happens, release.
- When you see the blue ‘power’ LED blink five times, your Halo Beacon has just turned off.
